Support includes product design assessment, clinical demand validation, clinical pathway modification/creation, and investigational study design leading up to first-in-man and beyond.

Our internationally renowned engineering faculty supports, manages and appraises academic projects and innovations. They can signpost areas of research that they can facilitate, thereby coupling innovative ideas with unmet clinical need.

Grant & Funding Support

With decades of experience behind them, the CVDHub’s team can support SMEs through the entire application process; from identifying relevant funding sources, to developing their grant scope and application content.

Research Development

The CVDHub can help with the design and implementation of clinical trials. Support ranges from study development, statistical input, ethics and competent authority assistance, to site set up.

Business Development

The CVDHub provides guidance, strategic support and market analysis to SMEs trying to tap into the cardiovascular market. The CVDHub also supports product licensing, advises on SME creation and facilitates the tech transfer process.

Our facilities

The CVDHub provides a one-stop shop for innovation – linking cardiovascular-related businesses to leading academics, researchers, engineers, clinicians and business support specialists.

The CVDHub’s team is comprised of key representatives from four of London’s centres of cardiovascular clinical excellence (Queen Mary University of London, University College London, Great Ormond Street Hospital and St Bartholomew’s hospital).

Barts Heart Centre is Europe’s largest specialised cardiovascular centre and the UK’s largest cardiac imaging centre with the very latest diagnostic equipment. The CVDHub works directly with the Trust’s clinical network, research teams and state-of-the-art facilities. Barts Simulation Centre also offers the opportunity to test new devices, allowing for human factor assessment and integration.

The CVDHub is supported by the NIHR Barts Biomedical Research Centre which draws on a faculty of world-leading academics and industry partnerships to take devices from drawing board, through prototype and into humans.

The CVDHub also collaborates with Queen Mary’s fully accredited Cardiovascular Clinical Trials Unit and Queen Mary’s and Bart’s extensive R&D departments, allowing us to support SMEs with research and investigation requirements. Queen Mary University of London also has the UK’s largest BioResource unit. The Barts NIHR BioResource is a dynamic health data repository managed by Barts Health NHS Trust, supporting research into health and disease.

The CVDHub also collaborates with Queen Mary’s fully accredited Cardiovascular Clinical Trials Unit and Queen Mary’s and Bart’s extensive R&D departments, allowing us to support SMEs with research and investigation requirements.

As well as working with our own in-house regulatory experts, the CVDHub has partnered with Psephos Biomedica – a medical device regulatory, clinical and quality consultancy. With decades of experience obtaining regulatory approvals they work with clients from around the world to bring medical technologies to market. Their highly focused, experienced team works with Class I through to Class III devices, covering areas such as Digital Health and AI, Cardiovascular, Neurovascular, Surgical and IVDs. Psephos assists clients to develop appropriate regulatory strategies combined with relevant action plans, as well as providing practical support with implementation as needed.

Alongside leading experts and key opinion leaders in the cardiovascular field, the CVDHub houses representatives from Queen Mary’s and University College London’s internationally-renowned departments of engineering. Within Queen Mary’s School of Engineering and Materials Science, the Division of Bioengineering brings together a critical mass of researchers to produce solutions to clinically relevant problems. World-leading innovation and research is transformed into clinical solutions that change people’s lives; whether it be novel materials, medical devices, implants or diagnostic systems.
